The following from Bridget Rogier [bridgetr@prodigy.net]
1736- Please refer to Johannes Binkley Sr. about Johannes Binkley Jr. coming to America on the ship Princess Augusta.

LANCASTER CO, PA 1739

1739- The following is from Pat Smith. From the LDS film #0,844,575. The first item on the roll: SWISS GERMANS IN LANCASTER, PA, page 268. "In 1739, Naturalized, Johannes Binkley (and others)."

YORK COUNTY, PA 1743

1743- From the book York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century compiled and edited by Marlene Strawser Bates and F. Edward Wright on page xix is the following. THE PRIVATE RECORDS OF JACOB LISCHY, V.D.M. Jacob Lischy was born in 1719 in Switzerland, now France. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1742. The Moravians ordained him a Reformed minister in 1743. He served the following congregations in York County: York (1745-1761), Kreutz Creek (1745-1757), St. David's, West Manheim (1753-1769), Canadochly (circa 1753-1761), (Lischy's St. Peter's) North Cordorus Township (to 1769). Jacob's (1756-1769), Strayer's (1757-1769), Wolf's (1763-1770), Emanuel's (1765-1769, Quickel's (1765-1769) and Friedensaal (to 1770).

1743- The following is a baptism record for Susanna the daughter of Johannes Binkley Jr. and his wife Catharina... LDS Film 0,020,363 Reformed churches in Eastern, PA. These Journals are at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA... Centerville or Cocalico, Baptism for: Susanna Binkley on 31 July 1743. Her parents were John Binkley & Catherine and her sponsors were Jacob Basher & Susanna Binkley a single woman. Also there was a Johann Michael Frey who was born on 06 March 1743 and baptized on April 1744. His parents were Valentine Frey and Anna Barbara Binkley.

The two baptisms are on the same page just a few lines from each other. It is safe to assume that Johannes, Susanna & Anna Maria Barbara may have been siblings. Since there has been nothing found to contradict this assumption and by the process of alimentation that we should list them as siblings of children of Johannes "Hance" Binkley Sr. (Now that Christian was found in the probate of Johannes Binkley Sr. we might add the name of Christian too.)

BERKS COUNTY, PA 1748

1748- The following record is from the Heidelberg, Cacusi, St. John's or Hain's Church. Johann Gorg of Johannes Binckeli and wife, bapt. July 1, 1748. Sponsors: Joh. Rech and Johannes Fuss.

1748- Again at the following record is from the Heidelberg, Cacusi, St. John's or Hain's Church. Elisabet of John Althauser and wife, bapt. (July 1, 1748). Sponsors: John Binckeli and wife.

YORK COUNTY, PA 1749

1749- From the book York County Church Records of the 18th Century compiled and edited by Marlene Strawser Bates and F. Edward Wright is the following. Anna Maria of Johanes Binckely and Catharina, Baptized March 12, 1749. Sponsors: Peter Binckely and Margreth. (We think Peter and Margreth is Peter Binkley, the Moravian and his second wife, Anna Margaretha Geiger because the location is in Codorus Township and the records are from Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Records.) Since this record would have been when Lischy was in York, the county of York in PA.

1750- The following record was found at Heidelberg, Cacusi, St. John's or Hain's Church. Anna Barbara of Conrad Hegy and wife. Bapt. April 15, 1750. Sponsors: Johannes Pinckle and wife. (I don't know if this is Johannes Sr. or Johannes Jr.) I think this is for Johannes Sr. because I think Johannes Jr. was already living in North Codorus Township, York County, PA.

1751- Land Record says, "A Draught of a Tract of Land (can't read >Lohiabe) in Codorus Township York County containing Two Hundred and Twenty four Acres and an Allowance of _____ _____ _____ for Roads and Highways surveyed the 23 day of October 1752 for John Bingalee in purshanced of a Warrant bearing back the 18 day of December 1751. In the diagram it shows some of his neighbors as: John (can't read) Hoorky, Peter Bingalee, Nicholas Maak, Nicholas Maak, Chris. Grib. (This record is kept with Johannes Binkley Sr's probate records.

????- Draft Map: I have an undated draft map showing our Johannes "John Bingalee" Binkley in lot #796, living in the "Northern Region" North Codorus Township of York County PA. 1755- The following is a record from Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record in York County, PA. Maria Catharina of Johannes Binckeli and Catharina, baptized February 23, 1755. Sponsors: Daniel Lang and Maria Catharina.

1755- I found in the book York County, Pennsylvania church records of the 18th century, compiled and edited by Marlene Strawser Bates and F. Edward Wright. Published by Family Line Publications, 1991 page 231.

Maria Catharina of Johanes Binckeli and Catharina, baptized February 23,1755. Sponsors: Daniel Lang and Maria Catharina

The above baptism of Maria Catharina was from Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record. The book mentioned above says the following. LISCHY'S (ST. PETER'S) REFORMED CHURCH, near Spring Grove, North Cordorus Township. Charles H. Glatfelter states, "There is evidence the Reformed congregation in some form or another may have come into existence in the later 1740's. The Lutheran congregation was organized a generation or two after that." The early ministers were Jacob Lischy, ca. 1760-1769, Charles 1. Boehme, 1775-79, John Christopher Gobrecht, 1780-1806.

Other records can be found at... 1. Historical Society of York County: Ul. Translated by William J. Hinke, July 1939. 2. Philip Schaff Library: MKZZ/YO/R80-83, Micro. #135, #136. 3. Historical Society of PA: xCh/523, XCh/7, Reformed.

1756- In the book Record of Arrivals and other data, page 2 of section 4, 5, and 6 that was found by Daniel Franklin Binkley's research. "#6, Johannes Binackle may be the same as Lieut. Col. John Brinckl, Capt. John Brinckle mentioned in 1756 list of Officers, Page 1 of miscellaneas notes." (Because of the time frame it would surely appear that this John is Johannes Binkley Jr. born in 1718.)

FREDERICK COUNTY, MD 1759

1759- From the book INHABITANTS OF FREDERICK COUNTY MARYLAND, VOLUME 2, 1749-1800 by Stefanie R. Shaffer listing land patents for Frederick County held at the Courthouse in Frederick. The Maryland Archives Assession Numbers are included. On page 109 lists John Pinkney, 1759 Weavers Weafstool; 100 acres; BC&GS#17 441 (This coding for land records has to do with Liber & Folio); Now Frederick

1765- From the book "Frederick County Maryland Land Records Liber J Abstracts, 1763-1767 (Deeds to 1765, Supersedes Records through 1767)" Abstracted by Patricia Abelard Anderson is the following on page 91. "1213-1215. Christian Pinkney son of John Pinkney, recorded 19 June 1765 made some day between John Pinkney for the natural love and affection and also 5 shillings sterling, grants tract called "Weavers Weasestool" beginning on a branch that falls into Great Hunting Creek, M&B for 100 acres. Signed John Pinkley by his mark before Thos Beatty, Thos Price. Receipt. Ack. Catherine wife of the said John released dower, AF paid."

I think this is important because even though the last name is different the comparisons stand out between this family and who we think is ours is remarkable. First because there is a John (Johannes) with a wife Catherine and a Christian whom I assume is his son because of the words "natural love and affection" and because it takes place in Frederick County. Notice that the forth time the name is mentioned is spelled John "Pinkley" which is the spelling we are used to seeing. I also noticed that maybe this Christian might just have gotten married and he might have gotten help from his father in obtaining land. The year of 1765 might be additional important knowledge because this Christian might be the age of the Christian that we claim: Johann Christian. I have noticed in the past that the original owner named all land and that name continued being used even though it could be 5 or more owners since. "M&B" means Metes and bounds- description of real estate boundaries. "Ack" means Acknowledgment of the deed by the grantor. "AF" means Alienation fine. A transfer fee. I don't know what "released dower" means but Dower rights mean: A widow's right to 1/3 of all her husband's real property owned during their marriage. This right had to be released whenever he sold property. If not done at the time the deed was made, the widow could come back later and exercise a claim against the property, and sometimes later dower releases we recorded. When sons inherited land, to sell, they would need their mother's dower release on the deed. Supersedeas, means in some instances use is synonymous with a "stay of proceedings." Here it is most similar to a bond required of one who petitions to set aside a judgment or execution for a period of time. Please tell me what you think about this? Do you think this is the Johannes Jr. and Catharine giving land to our Christian?

Let's see Johannes Jr. was probably born about 1718 and in 1765 he would be about 47 years old. Suppose Jr. was about 23 when his son was born then that son could be about or near the same age. To me that would track about right, right?

1771-2- "Frederick C., MD Rent Rolls for 1771-2- HUFFSTADLER, Ulerick, lives in Pa." (Don't know if this will mean something later.

FUNKSTOWN, WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD 1768

1768- The following is from the book FREDERICK COUNTY LAND RECORD ABSTRACTS- LIBER L, 1767-1770.

218-219. Michael Kirkpatrick recorded bill of sale 17 March 1768. [Examd & del'd George Kirkpatrick] I Mordach McKinsey weaver, sell a certain house and lot in Jerusalem adjoining to John Pinkley's lot in said town, together with several other things: my loom and gears and all utensils belonging thereto; also my chest and all the singular every thing or things there belonging to me, in consideration of 30 pounds and he warrants no other person has claim to any part. Signed by mark, Mordach McKinsey before Wm Macpherson, George Kirkpatrick.

496. Charles Hickman recorded bill of sale 6 September 1768, made 1 September 1768, between John Pinkley of FC (Frederick County), for 30 Pounds one house and lot in Funkstown #34, together and sundry other actions, to wit, three beds with what pertains thereto, 2 pewter basins, one pewter dish, six plates pewter and iron kettle, iron pot, frying pan, together with four cows, one black, two bay colored and one other spotted; five sheep, 900 sheaves of wheat and rye with eight acres of land which he and the said Pinckley hath cleared the said Funck Town, on the same terms that the said Pinckley had of Jacob Funchk. Signed by mark, John Pinkley before Jos Smith, Thos Prather. Receipt. Ack (Ack, means acknowledgment of the deed by the grantor.)

605. Teter Manner recorded supersedeas against John Pinkley, John Ogle and Peter Pinkley for 18 shillings, 6 pence and cast, taken 11 November 1668 before Wm Luckett, Wm Blair.

FREDERICK/WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD 1776-1783

1775- Also, for the same reason as mentioned above we would like to add the following. From the book REVOLUTIONARY PATRIOTS OF FREDERICK COUNTY, MARYLAND 1775-1783 By Henry C. Peden, Jr. on page 287. Could some of the following be his children?

1. Pinkley, Adam. Associator in December 1775 [ref.: E-1713. (It would seem that Adam, born 12 AUG 1744, is the son of Peter the Moravian who in 1775 was 31 years old.)

2. Pinkley, [Pinctley], John. Private in the 7th Maryland Regiment from February 2, 1777 to February 1778, when "off rolls" [Ref.: A-239]. (Again it would seem that this was Johannes born 26 MAR 1743, is the son of Peter the Moravian or he could be the John named in the 1806 will of Catharine Binkley, see 1806.) NOW I think that this is the John that was in his mother's probate; see below to 1801 and 1806!

3. Pinkley, John Grist. Associator in December 1775 [Ref.: E-171]. (I am sure that this is our Johann Christian Binkley/Pinkley and feel sure that he is a son of Johannes "Hance" Binkley Jr. listed in the above land record of 1765, see 1765.

4. Pinkley, [Pinckley], Michael. Private in the 7th Maryland Regiment from May 2, 1777, to August 16, 1780, when he was reported missing (after the Battle of Camden, South Carolina). [Ref.: A-239]. See the end of this report- 1806- where the children of Johannes and Catharine are to receive equal shares in their estate.

5. Pinkley, Nicholas. Private who enlisted July 20, 1776 [Ref.: A-SO]. (This is the only record any where of a Nicholas Pinkley, I can only assume that he died without being married and thus leaving any children. He is not mentioned in the will of Catharine Pinkley in 1801 and he was not a son of Peter Binkley the Moravian. The only Binkley families ever found in Frederick Co. were Peter Binkley the Moravian and the family of his nephew, Johannes Binkley Jr. and his wife Catharina. It would appear that Nicholas died before having children!)

6. Pinkley, Peter. Associator in December 1775 [Ref.: E-171]. Juror to the Oath of Allegiance in 1778 [Ref.: C-28]. I think he is most likely Johann Peter Binkley, born 13 JAN 1753 which would have made him about 22 years old and the son of Peter the Moravian. If so, this Peter later went to North Carolina with his father.
